COVID-19 AND SAFE SWIMMING POOL WATER
As swim season is approaches, how do you know if you're safe from Coronavirus in your swimming pool.
Keep this in mind with any bacteria in pool water:
NOTHING IS KILLED INSTANTANEOUSLY AT ANY LEVEL OF CHLORINE or TEMPERATURE.
The higher your chlorine levels the faster the kill rate.
But there is very little known about Covid and even less known about the kill rate with pool water chlorine/temp.
THE CDC AND MEDIA REPORTING ARE BEING VERY IRRESPONSIBLE IN THEIR STATEMENTS.
THEY ARE ADMITTING THERE IS NO EVIDENCE, but fail to state the kill rates and time it takes and at what levels.
Knowing kill rates are critical to judging the sanitation of the pool water.
Swimming in your pool with family you LIVE WITH:
"PROBABLY" puts you at little EXTRA risk if someone in your family actually has COVID. Your already touchin/breathing just about everything that they are.
BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS:
Swimming with visiting family/guests or in a public pool should not be recommended until Covid Chlorine kill rates are known.
ie. If someone's body fluid gets in the pool, it will take a certain amount of time for it to be killed.
If someone else swims through the infected water before the chlorine can kill it, then it's virtually the same as licking that Covid infected person's hands.
Below is a Kill table of common germs.
Guess where Covid falls on this chart.
No one has published this information yet, because no-one knows.
"IF" Covid dies as quick as E. coli, are you safe from contact for ONE WHOLE MINUTE,
while swimming in infected pool water circulating all around you.
NOT to mention, the infected swimmer is introducing new contaminated body fluids in the water every second they are in the water.
This kill table is from the CDC:
|Free Available Chlorine Germ-Killing Timetable|
|E. coli 0157:H7 (Bacterium)||less than 1 minute|
|Hepatitis A (Virus)||approximately 16 minutes|
|Giardia (Parasite)||approximately 45 minutes|
|Cryptosporidium (Parasite)||approximately 15,300 minutes (10.6 days)|
- Times based on 1 ppm free chlorine at pH 7.5 and 77°F (25°C)
- These disinfection times are only for pools and hot tubs/spas that do not use cyanuric acid. Disinfection times are longer in the presence of cyanuric acid.
- Almost all outdoor pools will have moderate to high levels of cyanuric acid.
BEWARE and be safe
This is what the CDC is stating about Covid and pool water.
