Pool Cleaning: 3 Methods to Remove Rust Stains from Pool Posted by Esposito Pool | Comments: (0) | News, Pool Care

Rust stains often develop from iron/steel components of pool equipment, old water pipes carrying iron into the pool when adding water, or steel of concrete structure of the pool. Removing rust stains from surface is difficult, unless you have knowledge about staining and your pool surface. They are unsightly and are damaging to the pool surface. You must remove them and ensure that it doesn’t cause damage to pool. Follow these three rust stain removal methods while cleaning your Cypress pool.

                       Pool Cleaning Cypress

1.Scrubbing: For minor rust stains, use a stiff bristled scrubbing brush to rub the surface where there is a stain. You can even use a steel wire brush if bristled brush proves unsuccessful. However, make sure you do not use hard brush types for more delicate surfaces as it could cause visible damage.

2.The Sock + Dry Acid Method: To perform this process, you need to wear protective gear. Take an old tube sock and sodium bisulfate (dry acid). You can also use ascorbic acid. Add a cup of dry acid to the sock, and tie it to keep the acid contained. Use a pool pole to hold the sock containing dry acid in place for 5-15 minutes. While doing the process, be aware that you don’t keep the sock above the stained surface for too long, as it may cause the affected surface lighter than the surrounding area.

3.Vitamin C Tablets: Vitamin C tablets are made of ascorbic acid that works well for stain cleaning. New pool rust stains can be removed by rubbing vitamin C tablet. For hard stains, crush some vitamin C tablets and sprinkle over the affected area, followed by vigorous brushing. In the market, you’ll get pool stain remover made from ascorbic acid. You can such products by adding them in a sock or pouring into a pipe for concentrated spot treatments.

In order to reduce the time and effort you spend dealing with pool stains, it is necessary to prevent it in the first place. When pH or alkalinity isn’t maintained, metals start leaching from the plumbing system into the pool and stain the surface. Always check your pool water chemistry and maintain the pH level between 7.4-7.6. Check all the pool equipment for corrosion and repair, or replace the part that is showing signs of rust. If your pool is showing recurring stains despite how many times you’ve removed them, you may probably need a pool professional to correct it. Call your Cypress pool cleaning company or pool expert in your area and get your pool staining problem fixed quickly.

5 Types of Plastering Defects You Must Identify in a New Pool Plaster Posted by Esposito Pool | Comments: (0) | Pool Construction

Pool owners often appreciate the long lasting and durable nature as well as smooth finish of plasters. Pool plaster, when properly mixed, applied, cured and maintained – can last for more than 15 years. Plastering a pool is not a DIY task and requires a much more industrial preparation process. Sometimes, plaster jobs can fail too – there are lots of different defects that can occur with pool plaster. There are 5 common types of defects that occur with newly plastered pool in Houston. Check them out!

White spotting: This issue occasionally develops in new white and dark colored plaster pools. The unsightly white spots begin to show up within the first year after plastering, and sometimes even before that. This problem has also been given the name of “spot etching” by pool plasterers. The addition of calcium chloride to the plaster mix also contributes to porosity, shrinkage and micro-cracking. When specific areas of a plaster surface become porous, the spots become lighter in color than the surrounding plaster surface, causing white spotting.

Discolorations: Discolorations can occur in a new pool plaster due to the addition of excessive calcium chloride set accelerator. Mottled discoloration can be severe that is difficult to remove or discolorations can be in the form of “trowel burn” sanding, acid washing, or torching the surface. Discolorations are detrimental to a plaster finish and the discoloration often returns later.

Spalling or Flaking: The term “spalling” has become a commonly used term to describe shallow surface loss. However, in the pool industry, the term “scaling” is used to describe calcium carbonate depositing from pool water onto the plaster surface. This problem usually results from hot, windy or dry days, or sometimes due to improperly timed trowel passes. When water evaporates from the pool surface faster than mix water, bleeding up occurs to replace the lost water from a particular surface. As a result, a weakened subsurface zone is created that will spall off subsequently.

Crazing or Cracking: Crazing is an excessive amount of surface shrinkage cracking. These will provide a nice foothold for dirt and algae. Crazing can result from excessive drying of the plaster before the pool is filled or from the addition of excessive water while troweling, or from excessive calcium chloride set accelerator added to the batch.

Etching: Look different from delamination and spalling, etching occurs when plaster have separated from previous plaster layers. Etching of pool plaster indicates a soft spot of plaster that has degraded and mostly occurs on steps and swimouts, & around wall fittings. It occurs when excess sand or fine aggregate is used in the plaster mix, or excess water or low cement concentrations in the mix, or due to excessively "hot" plaster mix with high calcium content.

Most new plaster finishes are flawlessly brilliant and usually don’t develop defects for years, if done & maintained properly. This post is to inform pool owners about the problems that can occur with new pool plaster, so that they can take care of their pool before and after pool plastering. An experienced pool plastering company in Houston or in your area will always avoid the mistakes that new pool companies usually do during plastering. Contact a trusted local pool plastering company and you will have no problems!

Is It the Right Time to Replaster Your Pool: Know the Signs Posted by Esposito Pool | Comments: (0) | News

Do you have an old pool? It could be the time to replaster your pool. Although the expected lifespan of plaster applied to pool ranges from 10 to 15 years, good pool chemistry and maintenance may earn your pool plaster a few years beyond that. There are many variables that affect the longevity of your pool’s plaster. Some of these factors include how the plaster was applied and water’s chemical balance. How do you know that your pool needs replastering service now? Check out for these signs to know when you should call your Houston pool replastering professional.

                        Pool Replaster Houston

Typical Signs that you Need to ReplasterYour Pool

• Mineral Stains

Pool stains don’t just happen, they are caused by poor water conditions and debris. Debris stains caused by leaves or dead bugsthat cannot be removed by simple brushing or bleaching. Similarly, minerals such as copper, iron or manganese present in fill water or coming from copper pool pipes can cause pool stains that are hard to remove by acid washing or chemical stain removers.

• Gunite/shotcrete/rebar is showing through

If you have bare spots inside the pool where the gunite/shotcrete/rebar beneath is showingthrough, this is of concern. Gunite/shotcrete forms the structural support of the pool, but they are porous and water will seep through them. The plaster acts as a waterproofing material above them. If your pool is showing patches at different areas where shotcrete/gunite beneath is clearly visible, it’s time to replaster.

• Rough Surfaces

The best indication that you may need pool replastering is identifying if the sides and bottom of the pool have become rough or not. Rough pool surfaces can cause tearing at your skin or clothes, and also provides algae a nice place to attach their roots. Localized rough surface can be sanded with rotary sanders but widespread rough surface can only be done away with replastering.

• Pool owners decide for a pool facelift

Some pool owners want to change the color or surface material of their pool, and that’s another reason for pool replastering. Generally, white plaster is applied over a shotcrete pool shell, but you can also opt for colored ones. Colored plaster is white plaster with dye added to the mix. If you’re bored with your plain white plastering, go for replastering using colored plaster option.

Knowing when to replaster your pool is essential if you want to avoid additional repairs and unwanted plastering costs. Watch out for these typical signs to determine if it’s time to replaster your pool. Once you have determined that your pool need repairing service now, you only need to do one thing – calling your professional pool replaster Houston company. Leave the plastering job to pros and enjoy your pool again once pool replastering work is done.

Troubleshooting Tips To Help You Avoid Pool Pump Failure

Owning a pool can be an exhilarating and luxurious experience. Swimming pool is a paradise where you can relax and unwind, have fun, or create memories with your family that will last a lifetime. However, sometimes pool problems such as pool pump failure can create stressful moments. Esposito Pools, specializing in pool service in Cypress, is capable of handling all of your pump related needs.

Below are mentioned the troubleshooting tips that will help you stop a small problem before it becomes a gigantic mess.

Troubleshooting Tips To Help You Avoid Pool Pump Failure

INSPECT YOUR POOL ON REGULAR BASIS – Make it a habit to visually inspect your pump and filter the system on a regular basis. Look for the signs of corrosion on bolts, pump housings, and between threaded connections. Also, keep a check on any type of water stains that might have developed in the time span. O-rings, gaskets or cracks in the unit need professional repairs, so call your pool repair company before complete pump failure sets in.

CHECK THE WATER FLOW – You have to inculcate the habit to determine if the flow from your water return is weak or strong. This can be easily done by simply feeling the flow with your hand. If the flow is weak, 9 times out of 10 it is a dirty filter. However, there can be other reasons, such as an obstruction in the inlet or outlet lines or your pump system could be sucking air. If you have cleaned your filter and skimmer but still need help to get the optimum flow from your pump, give our knowledgeable technicians a call.

DETERMINE ITS CYCLING – While the pump is still operational, keep a check whether it is cycling between on and off at irregular intervals. Check out if the motor is overheating or shutting itself down. This type of problem occurs due to faulty electrical cords. If this is the case, an electrician should be contacted to fix the problem. However, if the electrical wires are not the actual cause, then probably it can be the malfunctioning of the internal part. Contact your reliable company specializing in pool services in Cypress to prolong the life of your pump.

Pool pump failure can lead you in a troublesome situation where you will be left with no solution, but hopefully the aforesaid tips can be of some help. Therefore, choose a company that can provide you with satisfactory pool services in Cypress. Give Esposito Pools a chance to help you with your swimming pool repair or maintenance needs, so that you can enjoy your pool every day.

Choosing the Right Type of Pool Cleaner: Suction Side, Pressure Side or Robotic

Pool cleaning is always considered the great activity as it enables the pool owners to cut back on a large portion of pool maintenance. People often wonder as to which type of cleaner is best suitable for their swimming pool? Esposito Pools, being a leading provider of impeccable range of pool cleaning services in Cypress and surrounding areas, knows what are the prons and cons of different pool cleaners. Before you purchase pool cleaners, check out the prons and cons of these three types of cleaners - suction side, the pressure side, and robotic cleaners.

Choosing the Right Type of Pool Cleaner: Suction Side, Pressure Side or Robotic

SUCTION SIDE POOL CLEANERS – Suction-side pool cleaners work along with the dedicated suction line in your pool. They get attached to the suction line and utilize the suction to propel the cleaner throughout the pool while scrubbing the pool surface, eliminating dirt and debris from your pool.

Pros:

The moving parts are fewer

The cost incurred in less

Easy to maintain

Cons:

Increases the pressure on filter

Requires pool pump to run

PRESSURE SIDE POOL CLEANERS – Pressure-side pool cleaners make use of existing pressure side line so that the cleaner propel throughout your pool. The water returned back into your pool fuels the cleaner, but it can require an additional booster pump to run. Unlike suction side cleaners, pressure side pool cleaners do not use your pool’s filtration system. Instead to accumulate dirt and debris they make use of filtration bag, thus relieving pressure and avoiding wear and tear of the filtration system.

Pros:

Relieves pressure on filter

The cost incurred in less

Easy to maintain

Cons:

Can sometimes require extra booster pump

Requires pool pump to run

ROBOTIC POOL CLEANERS – Likewise other pool cleaners, robotic cleaners do not use pool cleaning equipment and nor do they run off the power from your house. The best thing is they free up pressure on your pool equipment and reduce overall power costs and consumption while providing superior cleaning power. They use the simple technology of “plug and play” and pick up large and small debris in the built-in filtration system. Many times they also scrub the pool floor and steps clean thus eliminating the need to clean your pool walls with a brush. The reason why the robotic cleaners are considered ideal for most pools is that they reduce the maintenance cost and wear and tear of the pool equipment.

Pros:

It offers superior cleaning

Energy efficient

Eliminates wear and tear of pool equipment

Cons:

The upfront cost involved is higher

With it arises the need to clean the filter

Professional pool technicians send by Esposito Pools provides reliable pool cleaning in Cypress at an affordable price along with pool equipment inspection & maintenance as well as monitoring of pool water level. Rebound Cracks – Solution Is To Get Your Pool Repaired

Rebound cracks are predominately horizontal cracks that occur 2-3” below the top of your pool steps. It occurs when the excess gunite bounces off the wall upon application that has a low cement to sand ratio and is weak in strength. Upon immediate visual inspection, it is impossible to see any issue. As the pool ages and settles with time, the steps built with low cement content don’t have the strength to withstand the stress and the weakest areas crack. Usually, the crack runs horizontally under the step.

Pool Repair Houston

So for this, you need to get your pool plastered again or get it fully repaired by the company specializing in pool repair services. But before you seek professional help from a pool repair company, check out the reasons for pool cracks:

•    INADEQUATE BEARING OF THE SOILS OR SOIL RELATED ISSUES – When the pools are built, no one is bothered to take into consideration the soil over which the pool is being built. When you consider all the construction material and the pool water, then a pool can weigh more than 450,000 lbs. The soil in the Texas region is very reactive and that is why the soil cannot withstand the weight of the pool until and unless the soil is properly prepared. Moreover, the construction efforts put in by the company specializing in pool repair in Houston are always in place to deal with the soil issues and avoid any future problem like this.
•    LACK OF TENSILE STRENGTH – Inadequate tensile strength and improper placement of reinforcing steel can also cause pool steps to crack. The rebar installed in older pools varies on its placement. Often rebar is installed in larger than 10”x10” on center grid patterns which are bad. 8”x8” on the center grid pattern is standard in today’s pools.
•    INADEQUATE COMPRESSIVE VALUES OF THE GUNITE – Guinte application is considered great and perfect in pool construction if all rebound and trimmings are thrown out of the pool during construction. However, if this is done the total cost of the construction would increase. The areas of the pool that have rebound in them have no compressive strength and the pool structure is weak in that area. Hence, do not throw any of that dead material, instead, wind it up on the pool floor, steps, and benches of the pool and spa.

If your pool is also facing rebound cracks, it’s time to think about a pool remodel or pool repair.  Cracks in swimming pools must be addressed to prevent them from becoming worse, such as allowing the pool to lose water. Water loss may not appear to be a concern; however, any amount of water loss over a period of time can result in the major structural problem for the pool. Esposito Pools – the reliable and professional company offering pool repair services in Houston takes pride in going beyond your expectations and will do everything to explain the most efficient way to operate your pool or make repairs or remodels.

Check Out The Best Materials For A Pool Hardscape

With each passing day, options available for the hardscape of a pool area are increasing widely. The plain concrete patios are becoming a thing of the past. Ranging from natural bluestone to composite wood, homeowners can now achieve a look that matches the natural landscape around the pool area seamlessly. While for those who prefer a concrete patio, stamped surfaces and pavers can update this material and give it a more stylized & modernized look. When planning your hardscape area, safety, aesthetics, and durability are the main considerations to be taken care of. For the same you can fix an appointment with the company offering pool repair services in Houston as their team of experts can ease your work by delivering the best services.

Best Materials for a Pool Hardscape

NATURAL STONE POOL PATIOS

The biggest advantage of natural stone hardscape is that it is durable and offers a sophisticated appeal to the swimming pool area due to its different types and colors. However, the natural stone is porous so it should be sealed yearly to protect it from chemicals and weather. If individual stones break or become withered, this type of patio can be repaired by replacing them without disrupting the entire patio.

•   BLUESTONE – Bluestone hardscaping is a blue-gray flagstone which is both non-slip and resistant to water. It is a good choice for swimming areas     for it stands up well to hard use. Bluestone is available in uniform, non-uniform, and smooth textures and offers a perfect blend with the natural     landscape.
•   FLAGSTONE – Likewise bluestone all types of flagstone create a non-slip surface that is resistant to hard wear and water. It is available in warm,     earth tones.
•   SLATE – Slate is just another type of flagstone that is highly durable. The material can be cut in different ways to create a customized look thus     making the installation an easy process.
•   TRAVERTINE – Travertine is a hardscape material that is as beautiful as it is durable. Colors include ivory, brown, and gold. One of its distinct     advantages is its resistance to heat, providing a cool surface for swimmers and patio loungers. The porous nature of travertine causes it to absorb     water incredibly quickly, which provides a non-slip surface.
•   LIMESTONE – Limestone can be cut in many shapes and sizes, it is an easy stone to work into virtually any design. It is available in multiple colors     including pink, brown, blue, and gray and can hold up well to hard wear and weather changes.

CONCRETE PAVERS AND STAMPED PATIOS

Concrete is a highly versatile and durable hardscape material, and its maintenance cost is also low. It is less expensive than the natural stone, concrete can be textured, stamped or treated in other ways to resemble other natural materials, making it a good option for homeowners seeking to save money without sacrificing aesthetic appeal. With concrete, you can achieve any shape and it is also easier to incorporate curves into your hardscape design with this material. There is a drawback, stamped concrete tends to crack, hence, proper maintenance becomes quite critical. But concrete pavers tend to crack less and can be more easily replaced.

Planning the hardscape that surrounds your swimming pool is an essential part of the design process. Discuss the options with a reliable company offering pool repair services in Houston to determine the best option for your outdoor living area.
